International Day of the Midwife 2017

On 5th May 2017 the team at the Rosie Hospital celebrated the history of midwifery.

Chief nurse Ann-Marie Ingle with head of midwifery, Anna Shasha, who came as Sister Monica Joan of Nonnatus House

Mary Cooper put together a display about the Friends of the Rosie. She and Susan Howlett enjoyed the day talking about the charity.

Some of the staff dressed up in past nurses’ uniforms and Sarah Hackett had a stall about breast feeding and displaying the knitted boobs she had requested earlier. She also had dolls of different nationalities there, which we are paying for and for which she is very grateful. People were very interested in the scrapbook.

The Addenbrooke’s Archivist had a book with handwritten entries of births back to the 1930’s. Most were ‘legitimate’ but some not and she was asked what ‘illegitimate’ meant by a 30 something adult. A social revolution!

We sold £20 worth of knittted goods.
